Océ OCEAN user interface wins iF award 2006

Communication design award in digital media category

Venlo, the Netherlands, 4 October 2006—Océ has won an iF design award for the Océ OCEAN user interface which will be the new standard on the company’s printing systems and software applications. Océ OCEAN won an iF communication design award in the digital media category. The iF award jury of international design experts recognized the user-friendly concept and complexity-free operation of Océ OCEAN at all levels.

New interface first shown at Océ OpenHouse 2006

This new, standardized user interface for Océ products was first presented at the Océ OpenHouse—Europe’s largest annual digital printing fair—held recently in Poing, Germany. Océ OCEAN made its debut at this event in the new Océ TCS300 wide format printing system. With Océ OCEAN, Océ has taken a fresh look at user interface design, making operation simpler and more easily accessible to operators of all skill levels. At the same time it follows established paradigms of system operation making it highly intuitive in use.

Product-independent application with familiar operation

The design of Océ OCEAN was focused on creating a largely product-independent, user-oriented presentation. The Océ design team made use of concepts and structures with which users are familiar, such as those of Microsoft Windows and web-based applications. The result is a distinctive user interface with intuitive navigation and clearly defined levels of operation, creating a working environment that is immediately recognizable to users. Icons and tabs are highlighted in green and blue, simplifying interactive operation and enabling users quickly to learn the principles of operation.

Designed for multi-platform implementation

Océ OCEAN has been designed to allow implementation on a range of platforms such as Microsoft® Windows®, web-based applications and touch screens without compromising its specific, familiar characteristics. The introduction of Océ OCEAN represents the first time that a common graphic user interface has been developed covering all software applications found in both small and wide format printing. This creates a standardized working environment that greatly simplifies the work of people who use different Océ products.
