New Sustainability Report published
Océ aims to further reduce energy consumption per print
Venlo, June 21, 2007 – Océ N.V., a leading international company in document management, aims to further reduce energy consumption per print according to its 2006 Sustainability Report published today. An example of this is the introduction of the Océ VarioPrint 6250, a revolutionary system that prints double-sided pages in a single pass. This system uses paper, toner and energy more economically thanks to its double-sided print technology and efficient operation.
A list of some of the report’s highlights:
- The 2006 Sustainability Report is the first to be verified externally
- Reuse makes it possible to use components several times instead of just once. Many systems get a ‘second life’ through reused components
- Océ is number four in Van Lanschot Bankiers’ Corporate Social Responsibility Benchmark
- Océ scores sixth place in the Responsible Supply Chain Management Benchmark of the Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development (VBDO).
- Océ wants to reduce ozone, dust and toner emissions and aims to minimize waste and unnecessary prints.
The 2006 Sustainability Report also details the (re)use of components, energy and water consumption, waste handling and emissions as well as human and environmental safety. The report also contains various interviews in which stakeholders talk about sustainability.
Rokus van Iperen, CEO of Océ:
‘This report expresses the responsibility we feel towards society. We want our activities to contribute to improving the environment. Not just in the Netherlands but in all countries where we are active. Océ has a long tradition when it comes to sustainability. This began in
1870 with Lodewijk van der Grinten’s research into improving the quality of drinking water. Our most recent achievement in this area was the introduction of the Océ VarioPrint 6250 in 2006. It is based on Gemini Instant Duplex technology and is the world’s first system to print double-sided pages in a single pass. It’s natural to us that innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.’
Remanufacturing
When a machine reaches the end of its economic lifespan, Océ takes it back and reuses the components. Because of the high quality of materials, many components can be reused in new systems (‘cradle-tocradle’), limiting the environmental impact as a result. Océ has been doing this for decades and has
adapted all its logistic processes accordingly.
Océ is included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index since 2004 and endorses the UN Global Compact. In addition, the company is a member of various European and international public and private initiatives related to sustainability.
The 2006 Sustainability Report is available in English and can also be downloaded.
